The sunflower
The sunflower is the symbol of the Sun and symbolises love and admiration. But also happiness, vitality, positivism and energy. In Chinese culture it symbolises a long life and good luck. In the language of flowers the sunflower means admiration, in turn, the yellow colour means I only have eyes for you, and like the sunflower, I will always turn towards you, on the other hand, orange represents fidelity in love along with admiration.
The Sunflower is one of the typical flowers of summer and its name comes from the fact that its flower always turns towards the sun. However, in Taxco de mis amores we want to go further and learn about the romantic legend that accompanies it.
There are several stories about this flower, but we would like to refer to the one told in Greek mythology…
Legend has it that a young water nymph Clytie, daughter of the god Oceanus and the sea goddess Tethys (Titanide), fell madly in love with the god of light and the sun Apollo. Such was her love that she followed his path every day from the time he left his palace in the morning until he arrived in the west at dusk.
Day after day Clytie followed the steps of her beloved with eyes full of love, to the point that she began to forget to eat and drink... Despite this adoration she never won Apollo's favor and the days went by. Little by little Clytie began to take root until she ended up becoming a beautiful flower, a sunflower. A flower that, even today, does not forget the object of her love and her golden diadem continues to follow the sun.
A beautiful legend that highlights the meaning of loyalty and fidelity of this flower, since Clytie's love for Apollo will never end, at least not as long as there are sunflowers on earth.
