Meaning of Ladybugs
For many years, Ladybugs have been a symbol of good luck in the search for true love. In Europe during the Middle Ages, there were various pests that were destroying crops, such as aphids, which meant hunger for hundreds of people who depended on their crops. Farmers prayed to the Virgin Mary for help. Shortly after, ladybugs arrived with their voracious appetite, devouring the pests and saving the harvest.
Since then, farmers have called ladybugs "Our Lady's beetles." The red wings are said to represent the Virgin's mantle and the dots a symbol of her sorrows and joys.
