What does Saint Benedict represent?
The medal of Saint Benedict is a representation of the love of Christ according to the Catholic religion. It is said that this medal has qualities to ward off the evil that surrounds us, as well as temptations through our faith.
The origins of this medal date back several centuries; it was Pope Benedict XIV himself who designed this medal and blessed it, granting indulgences to whoever wears it.
Its design consists of two views of the medal, on the back there is an image of Saint Benedict holding a raised cross with his right hand looking at the sky and in his left hand the Bible with the holy mystical rule, in the background there is an altar and a chalice from which a snake comes out that relates to an experience in his life in which some monks wanted to kill him by giving him poison to drink, but they did not succeed because when he made the sign of the cross on his glass before drinking the wine, it broke into pieces spilling the poisoned wine everywhere.
Surrounding these images on the medal are the words “EIUS IN OBITU NOSTRO PRESENTIA MUNIAMUR” which mean (May we be protected by your presence at the hour of our death)
On the other side of the medal is the cross of Saint Benedict with ancient initials dating back to the 14th century, testifying to faith in the power and authority of God.
