The hummingbirds

Why is a hummingbird the symbol of the god of battles?

Well, hummingbirds belong to the Trochilidae family and are the smallest warm-blooded animals on the planet, although they are also some of the fiercest when it comes to territorial disputes over their precious flowers, from which they obtain their energy, since each one has to drink around 1,000 flowers a day to obtain the amount of nectar necessary for its sustenance.

For this reason, battles between hummingbirds can be merciless and ruthless, and it is fortunate that they are not very large, or who knows what they would be capable of. As an additional fact, it should be mentioned that, in relation to their size, they have one of the largest musculatures of all birds on the planet.

Do you remember I told you that the hummingbird also creates love?

Well, in the Nahuatl world there is a word to designate the act of making someone fall in love with you through spells and that is ique huilotla. One of these spells said that to have luck in love you had to carry a hummingbird close to your heart and then it would never matter again if you were poor, old or ugly. Sadly, many people even today trust more in amulets than in their own attitude and there are those who go so far as to capture hummingbirds to embalm them and carry out these spells. This is a very common practice in the Sonora market in Mexico City, so much so that they have been brought to the brink of extinction in the Valley of Mexico.
Further north, in Querétaro, the Hñä-Hñü have a similar belief, as young men use the tsut'udoni, which translates as “flower bird,” to be able to approach girls, as they are poetically compared to flowers. The ritual consists of having the hummingbird close to the heart wrapped in a white cloth that represents the purity of the girl in order to be able to approach her. The second time, a ribbon and a green cloth are tied to the wrapping, which means the hope of having the girl at some point. On the third occasion, the bird must be wrapped in a ribbon and a red cloth as a sign of the end of the ritual. It all sounds very poetic until you realize that due to the insecurity of a boy, an innocent hummingbird lost its life, which ends the romantic vision of the spell.

1. Storage: Store your silver jewelry in a dry and dark place, preferably in a soft cloth case or bag to avoid contact with light and air, which can cause oxidation.2. Regular Cleaning: Clean your silver jewelry regularly with a soft cloth or a silver-specific cleaner. Avoid using abrasive products that may scratch the surface.3. Avoid humidity: Silver tends to tarnish more quickly in humid environments. Avoid wearing your jewelry in the shower, pool or sauna.4. Chemicals: Keep your jewelry away from chemicals such as perfumes, lotions, detergents and cleaning products as they can damage the finish of the silver.5. Daily Wear: If you wear your silver jewelry frequently, friction with your skin can help keep it shiny. However, avoid contact with elements that may scratch them.6. Periodic Checks: Inspect your jewelry regularly to make sure there is no damage, loose stones or worn pieces. If necessary, take your jewelry to a jeweler for repairs.7. Avoid air exposure: If you don't plan to wear your jewelry for a while, consider wrapping it in an anti-tarnish cloth or storing it in an airtight bag to minimize air exposure.
