The short-billed hummingbird (Ramphomicron microrhynchum), also called the black-backed thornbill, is a species of bird in the Trochilidae family, order Apodiformes. It lives in the humid forests and mountain forests of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.
It measures between 8 and 9 cm in length and weighs between 3 and 5 gr. The back and top of the head of the males are deep purple, with a short, forked tail that is very dark violet, almost black. The females are green on top and greyish white with green mottling on the bottom.
Meaning of Hummingbirds?
The hummingbird embodies a symbolism with a powerful spiritual meaning, as it represents the resurrection of souls. In some ancient cultures it means death in the cold nights of winter and resurrection to life with the dawn of spring.
This bird was in charge of carrying out the gods' mission to transmit good thoughts among men, even those of the dead. The hummingbird carries the thoughts of men from here to there, and not only of the living, but also of the souls of our loved ones from beyond.
Therefore, when a hummingbird approaches you, it can mean that someone is sending you love and good wishes.
